MURDER OF A SOLDIER: Army Debunk Involvement in Burning Ogijo Police Station

…..says crowd attacks the Police Station as killer Police Officer is in Safety in Army Custody.

The Nigeria Army has come out to debunk the allegation of the Military involvement in the burning down of a Police Station in Ogijo Community in Ogun State.

The incident which involved a Police Officer and an Army Officer at Odongunyan in Lagos State happened on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, things went wrong when the policeman stabbed the victim to death.

According to information,the late soldier, who got married in November 2022 was on mufti when the incident occurred.

The death of the Army Officer led to the burning down of Ogijo Police Station in Ogijo Community,a border town between Ogun and Lagos State.

It was alleged that some Army Officers due to the death of their colleague vex their anger on the Police Station at Ogijo by burning it.

An eye withness said, “The soldier was killed at Odogunyan by policemen,the deceased was in mufti. Immediately the Police men realized he was an officer, they ran away to Ogijo police station.”

Due to the allegation against the Army Officers at Odongunyan,the Army has come out to debunk their involvement in the burning of the Station.

According to the statement released by the Nigeria Army Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations,Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni,

“Angry mob at Ogijo Community, a border town between Ogun and Lagos states attacked a Police Station today 15 February 2023 following the death.

of a soldier who was stabbed to death by a policeman.

The victim confronted the suspect who was not properly dressed and standing very close to the Patrol Vehicle of Operation MESA to confirm his identity. This led to an argument and subsequently, the unfortunate incident. The soldier was immediately rushed to Lagos State Polytechnic Hospital, Odogunyan, for medical attention, but he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The remains of the soldier has been moved to 174 Battalion Medical Centre in Ikorodu. The suspect has also since been arrested and kept in a military custody for his safety and subsequent hand over to Nigeria Police for prosecution.

The angry mob who witnessed the unfortunate incident took advantage of this and attacked Police Station

in the community. Troops have  been deployed around the vicinity of all police stations in Ikorodu general area to prevent breakdown of law and order.

The situation is however under control as normalcy has returned to the community.”

When The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer,SP Abimbola Oyeyemi was contacted on phone,he condemned the act of burning down the station, he said,”This incident does not concern us at all,the Police involve in this incident is serving in Lagos while the Soldier is serving in battalion 147,they are both serving in Lagos,why are you attacking police Station in Ogun State.It was not right.
