Senate Committee on Marine Transport pays oversight functions to NPA Facilities, and others.

On the third day of its interactive session and oversight functions on agencies of government under its purview, the Senate Committee on Marine Transport paid an assessment visit to the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) on 11th day of October, 2023.

Amongst facilities of the NPA visited were the Port Tower, where the Chairman, Distiguished Senator Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, supported by many of the committee members stated the need for the radar equipments in the tower to be upgraded to meet with the international standards, the simulation equipments of the APM terminal, which is being used in training crane operators on how to perform their duties safely and seemlessly.

According to APM Managing Director, the technology is the only one in sub Sahara Africa; and attracts trainees from all over the continent and beyond.

The Committee also visited ENL consortium terminal, Apapa Bulk Terminal Ltd, Lagos channels Management ltd and Ports Training Institute, where they inspected the NPA simulation centre and got briefed on the operation of tug boats owned by the agency.

The committee proceeded to inspect NPA facilities at Tin Can Island port. The committee visited terminals operated by Josepdam, Tin Can Container Terminal, Port and Cargo (Sifax), Five Star logistics and PTML. It also inspected the NPA administrative block under construction at Tin can.

In completing the task of the day, the Committee Chairman conducted other Senators to places of attraction around Lagos. Of note was the visit to the Eko Atlantic City, to have a feel of d beauty in Lagos.
