AMJON 2024 ANNUAL CONFERENCE :NPA, NIWA NSC to Talk on Developments Under “Renewed Hope Agenda”
– NSC, Comptrollers Olomu, Nnadi, Others Clinched Excellent Performance Awards.

The 2024 annual conference and awards of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) is scheduled to hold on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the Rockview Hotel Apapa, Lagos State, from 10am.
This year conference is aimed at digging deep into the untapped Nigerian Blue Economy which is estimated at about $1.9trillion under the Renewed Hope regime.
The conference with the theme: “NIGERIA’S MARITIME/BLUE ECONOMY INDUSTRY UNDER THE RENEWED HOPE AGENDA: WHAT IS NEW”, will spark off fresh national conversations on what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda and creation of the Marine and Blue Economy ministry holds for Nigeria.
The event is billed to have the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Barr. Pius Akutah, Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr Bola Oyebamiji, Dr Paul Adalikwu, Secretary General of MOWCA, among other guests and participants.
The NPA Managing Director will deliver paper on NIGERIA’S BLUE ECONOMY & PORTS INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT: THE NPA PERSPECTIVE. The NSC will speak on “ACHIEVING A PROFITABLE PORT SYSTEM: NSC DUTY AS PORT ECONOMIC REGULATOR. While, the NIWA, MD will speak on DEVELOPING A WATERWAYS TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN AS A NEEDED MODEL FOR NIGERIA.
The event will also confer deserving honours and awards of Excellence Performance on NSC as” MOST TRANSFORMED MARITIME AGENCY OF THE YEAR 2024″, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni will be honored as the ” MOST OUTSTANDING CUSTOMS AREA CONTROLLER OF THE YEAR, while the Apapa Customs Command will be awarded, ” MOST OUTSTANDING CUSTOMS COMMAND IN REVENUE GENERATION / TRANSFORMATION.
Others are two outstanding female practitioners in the industry, Mrs Temilade Ogunniyi and Mrs Nwaeze Theodora among other awardees.
The Patron of AMJON, Chief Tony Nwabunike, along with other notable drivers and stakeholders in the maritime sector will be on hand to chart this new course for AMJON.
According to the outgoing president of the association, Paul Ogbuokiri, the event will bring together influential voices for collaborative dialogue and development of the maritime industry.
Leveraging on the theme of the lecture, Ogbuokiri revealed that it will educate participants and stakeholders on the activities of government and its agencies in actualising the potentials, prospects and opportunities which abound in the Blue Economy sector.
“Stakeholders and investors shall be educated on the available opportunities
and the conducive environment provided by government for investments to grow and yield tangible returns on investments, ROI, in the sector” Ogbuokiri said
According to Ogbuokiri, the 2024 AMJON annual conference will be unique as it will feature installation of patrons, matrons, presentation of awards to deserving Nigerians and inauguration of the newly elected executives, led by Mr Kelvin Kagbare; which shall pilot the affairs of the foremost maritime journalists association for the next three years.
