Police Reform: Ogun CP Appoints New Violent Crime Response Unit Commander.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has appointed Daramola Sunday Thompson as Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in line with ongoing reform directives issued by the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The appointment, announced by the Ogun State Police Command, is part of a broader restructuring initiative aimed at strengthening tactical operations and improving the response to violent crimes across the state. Authorities say the reform seeks to establish a unified, intelligence-driven policing framework that enhances efficiency, accountability, and coordination.
According to the command, the selection of Thompson followed a rigorous screening process, which also marked the start of an orientation programme for newly recruited personnel of the unit. Senior officers, including the Commissioner and members of the Command Management Team, participated in the exercise, providing operational guidance and reinforcing reform objectives.
Thompson brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served in key operational positions such as Officer in Charge of the Anti-Cultism Unit and CP Monitoring Unit in Ogun State, as well as leading the Anti Fraud and Anti Car Theft Units in Ekiti State. He also served as Divisional Police Officer at Noyo Division in Ebonyi State.
Ojajuni tasked the new VCRU commander with upholding professionalism, discipline, and integrity, while ensuring swift and lawful responses to violent crime in line with the Inspector General’s reform agenda.
