Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several attackers, rescuing nine abducted civilians, and forcing the assailants to retreat.

8 Division, Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA,the attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2026, when the terrorists allegedly attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to breach the military facility. According to military authorities, vigilant troops detected the movement of the attackers early and responded with coordinated firepower, thwarting the assault.
The military said the terrorists fled the area after suffering heavy casualties. Reinforcements were subsequently deployed, and troops launched a pursuit of the fleeing gunmen, who had reportedly abducted residents from the surrounding community during the attack.
The pursuit led to the rescue of nine abducted civilians, who were safely recovered. Troops are continuing exploitation operations in the area to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ losses and to ensure the security of nearby communities.
The operation, however, came at a cost. An Army officer and a Police officer were killed during the firefight, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds. The injured personnel were evacuated by air for advanced medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Military authorities also dismissed online reports claiming that six security personnel were killed during the attack, describing the information as inaccurate. They maintained that the confirmed casualties were one Army officer and one Police officer.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the failed attack marked another operational setback for terrorist groups operating in the North West, attributing the outcome to sustained military pressure and the heightened readiness of troops.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining offensive operations, protecting vulnerable communities, and dismantling terrorist networks until lasting peace and security are restored across the region.
