Eshilokun triumphs over Gomez again at appeal court.

– Shina Ishola

It’s victory at last; yet another sweet song for the Eshilokun camp at the Appeal court on 9th September, 2023, when the court dismissed the appeal filed by Mr Adewale Gomez and the PDP against the verdict of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, that sat at the old National Assembly complex, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Mr Adewale Gomez and the PDP had gone to the appealate court to challenge the initial dismissal pronounced by the tribunal. It should be noted that the tribunal had dismissed Gomez’s and PDP’s petition for being abandoned. So, the duo, as appellants at the Appeal court, in GOMEZ & Anor vs INEC & 2 others, had sought the court to determine if the tribunal’s dismissal of their petition as being abandoned correct.

The appeal court discountenanced J.B. Dauda’s argument that the 2nd and 3rd respondents lacked locus to challenge service on 1st respondent and affirmed the judgement of the tribunal; thereby dismissing the appeal.

With this judgement, the validity of the election that produced Distiguished Senator Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni as the Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial district has been laid to rest. The new Chairman, Senate committee on Marine and Transport can now concentrate on giving quality representation to his constituents; as well as, helping to make good laws for the smooth running of the government of Nigeria.
