Senate Committee on Marine Transport Commences a week long interactive session with Agencies under its purview.

The Senate Committee on Marine Transport, under the Chairmanship of Distiguished Senator Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, commenced a five-day interactive session and oversight visits to agencies supervised by the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and under its purview, on 9th October, 2023. The engagement exercise which will hold between 9th – 14th October, is aimed at ensuring that the Committee is acquainted with the workings and challenges of these agencies so as to know how to provide the necessary support required for them to function more efficiently in their service delivery.
The meeting is being held at the Eko hotel and suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Among the organisations involved are NIMASA, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Maritime Academy of Nigeria and Council for the Registration of Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (CRFFN).
Others are Lagos, Bonny and Escravos Channels Managements, Apapa Bulk Terminal Ltd, ENL consortium, Greenview Dev. Nig. Ltd, APM terminal, Josepdam, Tin can island container terminal, Ports and Cargo, Five star logistics, PTML, Nigerdock and Ladol.
At the interaction session held on the 9th, each of the Chief Executive Officers of NIMASA, Nigerian Shippers Council, NPA, NIWA, Maritime Academy and CRFFN took turns to intimate the Committee with the achievements of their organisations and their challenges; with a recurring need for more funding.
Committee members present are: Senators Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni (Chairman, Lagos Central), Karimi Sunday (Vice Chairman, Kogi Central), Ashiru Oyebola (Senate Deputy Whip, Kwara), Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) and Idiat Adebule (Lagos West).
Others are Senators Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), David Jekuta (Taraba South), Ibrahim Bomai (Yobe), Yinus Akintunde (Oyo Central), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Ahmed Wadada (Nasarawa) and Barry Mpigi (Rivers)
