The Ogun State Police Command, in partnership with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Ogun State Command, on Wednesday, launched a two-day security seminar aimed at enhancing collaboration among security agencies and boosting community peacekeeping efforts.
Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, who declared the seminar open, described the initiative as a crucial step toward strengthening the capacity of grassroots security operatives. He emphasized the importance of synergy between formal and informal security actors in tackling Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges.
“The presence of seasoned security experts at this seminar demonstrates the timeliness and relevance of this year’s theme,” Accorrding to Ogunlowo “It underscores the synergy among security agencies and highlights the need to sustain and deepen this collaboration for the benefit of our nation.”
The seminar brings together professionals from across a range of disciplines including policing, law, technology, medicine, insurance, and physical training to provide high-impact training to officers of the VGN.
Among the key topics discussed are:
“Functions and Operations of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria as a Support Security Organization Towards Effective Community Peace”, to be delivered by retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Fimihan Adeoye.
“Positive Synergy and Intelligence Sharing: Avoiding Agency Rivalry”, to be delivered by retired AIG Lanre Bankole.
According to CP Ogunlowo, the sessions aim to equip participants with tools rooted in professionalism, integrity,operational efficiency and qualities he described as critical to defeating what he called the “hydra-headed monster of criminality.”
Reinforcing the central role of the Nigeria Police Force as the lead internal security agency, he urged all stakeholders to abandon rivalry and embrace cooperation.
“Together with other security outfits, we must dismantle insecurity, overcome trust deficits, and rise above unhealthy complexes. United, we stand equipped with the crushing force needed to defeat crime,” he stated.
Addressing the participants directly, Ogunlowo called on them to approach the seminar with open minds: “Unlearn, learn, and relearn,” he advised. “By the end of this program, I am confident that your perspectives, strategies, and capacity for service will be elevated,better aligning you with the task of nation-building.”

Dr Peter Afunaya DSS was represented.
The seminar was conclude with interactive sessions and strategy workshops focused on real-world security challenges faced in communities across Ogun State.
