The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday held a surprise send-forth ceremony in honour of its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) Isah Sulaiman, who is set to assume a new role at the Apapa Area Command.
The event, held at the Command’s Officers’ Mess, also featured a retirement celebration for the Head of the Scanning Unit, Deputy Comptroller Audu Samson Edime.
Sulaiman, who took office as Seme Command’s spokesperson on February 7, 2025, received glowing tributes from sister security agencies, officers, and members of the press for what many described as his professionalism, humility, and exceptional commitment to duty.
Senior officers representing sister agencies along the Lagos Seme corridor praised him as an exemplary image maker who upheld mutual respect and strengthened inter-agency cooperation. They said his leadership style brought renewed dynamism to engagements with stakeholders and enhanced collaboration on the corridor.
Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Wale Adenuga, described Sulaiman as “one of the best PROs in the entire Customs Service,” noting that his presence greatly eased administrative responsibilities.
“I will truly miss you. You will attain greater heights,” Adenuga said, adding that Sulaiman’s transfer had been delayed to ensure a smooth transition during his own assumption of office.
The CAC also commended officers of the Command, sister agencies, and the media for the support that has contributed to improved performance, especially in revenue generation.
Journalists present described Sulaiman as a “journalist’s delight,” citing his accessibility and deep understanding of media relations. They pledged to maintain the same collaboration with him in his new posting.
In an emotional response, Sulaiman said the outpouring of goodwill deeply humbled him, noting that it was the first time he was being celebrated publicly in the presence of stakeholders. He credited Comptroller Adenuga for creating an enabling environment and thanked senior and junior officers for their support, describing the Command as “home.”
He urged officers, sister agencies, and the media to extend the same cooperation to his successor.
The ceremony also honoured Deputy Comptroller Edime Audu Samson, who retired after years of service. Speakers commended him for “finishing well,” stressing that retirement is not the end of service to the nation.
Director of NAFDAC, Seme Command, Dr. Nurudeen Audu, encouraged officers to remain active after retirement and to explore entrepreneurship as a means of staying productive. He announced that NAFDAC is ready to support retired military and paramilitary officers with business-oriented assistance packages.
Responding to this, Comptroller Adenuga disclosed plans to organise entrepreneurship lectures for officers approaching retirement, to be facilitated by Dr. Audu.
A visibly fulfilled Edime expressed gratitude for a rewarding career, saying he looked forward to using his retirement to engage in productive ventures.
The ceremony highlighted the strong inter-agency cooperation and goodwill cultivated under Sulaiman’s tenure, as he prepares to join the strategic Apapa Customs Command.
