Ogun State Police Command achieved a significant breakthrough when the Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescued nine foreign nationals and arrested two suspects involved in a transnational fraud syndicate. The suspects, Stephen Kwame and Abubakar Sulaimon, were apprehended at a hideout in the Owode Egba area.

DSP Oluseyi B Babaseyi anipr.On April 6, 2026, police operatives acted on actionable intelligence received through INTERPOL, storming the identified location at around 12 PM. There, they successfully rescued Maclaud Owusu, a 40-year-old Ghanaian national, alongside eight others, all held unlawfully.
Initial investigations reveal that the suspects are part of an organized criminal network that misleads foreign nationals, particularly from Ghana, into believing they will be helped to travel to Europe. Upon arrival in Nigeria, victims are confined and manipulated into contacting their families for ransom, often being defrauded of large sums. Mr. Owusu was deceived into paying Thirty-One Thousand Ghana Cedis (₵31,000) before the police intervened.
The suspects were immediately arrested, and the rescued individuals are currently receiving the necessary support. The principal victim has been reunited with his family, while efforts continue to locate and reunite the other victims with their loved ones. An ongoing investigation aims to identify and apprehend all other members of the crime syndicate, with plans to charge the suspects in court upon completing the investigation.

He emphasized the Ogun State Command’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against criminal activities, vowing to dismantle such syndicates decisively.
The police urge the public, especially those arranging international travel, to verify the credibility of agents and remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to similar schemes. Citizens are also encouraged to report pertinent information to the Ogun State Police Command through various emergency hotlines.
