AIG Okunade Meets Western Naval Command, Calls for Enhanced Collaboration to Boost Maritime Security.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, mspsp, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, at the Command headquarters to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance security in Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The meeting provided a platform for both services to reaffirm their shared commitment to safeguarding coastal and inland waterways through coordinated operations, intelligence sharing and joint strategies. AIG Okunade emphasised that maritime security is a collective responsibility, noting the Navy’s lead role in territorial waters and the complementary mandate of the Maritime Police Command in policing inland waterways and coastal communities.
Rear Admiral Mustapha welcomed the delegation and commended the AIG’s proactive approach, reiterating the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to continued partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in tackling maritime threats.
Deliberations identified priority areas for cooperation, including intensified coordinated patrols across Lagos waterways and adjoining creeks, development of a unified response framework for maritime emergencies, and enhanced capacity building through joint exercises.
The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a renewed pledge by both Commands to deepen collaboration to protect lives and property within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
