Ogun Police Dismiss Banditry Rumours Over Mowe Attack.

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims that the recent deadly attack at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, was carried out by bandits, insisting that the incident was an isolated criminal operation.
The Command disclosed that the attack claimed the life of a soldier deployed to provide security at the site, while another soldier sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to the police, the assailants abducted four persons during the raid before fleeing into nearby bushes.
Security operatives, comprising the Police, Military and other stakeholders, immediately launched coordinated search and rescue operations. The efforts led to the rescue of one of the kidnapped victims, while the bodies of the remaining three abductees were later recovered.
Tragedy also struck during the manhunt as a local hunter assisting security personnel was reportedly killed in an encounter with the fleeing criminals. The Police Command extended its condolences to the family of the deceased hunter.
The Command further revealed that sustained pressure from the joint security team resulted in the neutralisation of one of the suspects, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the gang.
Reacting to reports linking the attack to banditry, the police said preliminary investigations have not established any connection between the incident and bandit activities.
“The incident remains an isolated criminal attack. Investigations and tactical operations are ongoing,” the Command stated.
Police authorities assured residents of Mowe and surrounding communities that the situation has been brought under control, adding that security presence in the area has been strengthened to prevent further attacks.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and continue to support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
