Ogun Police Arrest Six Suspects, Recover Firearms, Stolen Generators and Phones in Multi-Location Raids.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, generators and mobile phones during a series of intelligence led operations across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo.

The coordinated operations, carried out by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Ibafo Division, targeted criminal networks allegedly involved in illegal possession of firearms, theft, conspiracy, armed intimidation and receiving stolen property.

The suspects arrested were identified as Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” Mumuni Amodu, also known as “Stone,” Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” and Adeboye Ojesina.

Police said the operations led to the recovery of one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.

Generator Theft Syndicate Dismantled

According to the police, operatives of the VCRU acted on intelligence received on May 30, 2026, and arrested Moruf Sodiq, who was allegedly linked to a generator theft syndicate operating in Abeokuta and surrounding area.

Investigators said the suspect subsequently led officers to Mumuni Amodu, alleged to be a receiver of stolen property. A search of the premises reportedly resulted in the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android phones believed to have been recently stolen.

Police also arrested Abayomi John, a motorcyclist accused of providing transportation and logistics support to members of the syndicate during criminal operations.

The suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the group.

SWAT Recovers Rifle, Pistol and Ammunition

In a separate operation on June 12, 2026, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and accusations of threatening residents in Wasimi and neighbouring communities.

A search conducted by the operatives led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

Police said Ojesina initially denied ownership of the weapons but later claimed he found the pistol within the community and fired a test shot to determine whether it was functional. He also reportedly stated that the pump-action rifle was handed to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being tracked by investigators.

The suspect remains in custody as efforts continue to arrest other persons connected to the case.

Vehicle Parts Theft Network Exposed in Ibafo

On June 13, 2026, detectives attached to the Ibafo Division launched an investigation following a complaint of theft at a site in Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo.

The operation led to the arrest of Afisu Awesu, who was allegedly caught attempting to steal a forklift engine component alongside an accomplice who escaped.

Further investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo.

Police subsequently arrested Aminu for allegedly receiving stolen property, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the wider network.

The Command said all suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
