The Presidency has confirmed the rescue of all pupils and teachers abducted by gunmen in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, bringing an end to weeks of anxiety over one of Nigeria’s most disturbing recent school kidnapping incidents.
The announcement was made today Friday,10th of July,2026 by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on X.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo, have been rescued by our security agencies,”Onanuga wrote, He didn’t provide details of the rescue operation or the condition of the victims.
The victims were abducted on May 15 after gunmen attacked schools in communities within Oriire Local Government Area near Ogbomoso, triggering widespread outrage across Oyo State and beyond.

The incident prompted protests in Ibadan, where residents called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of the victims. It also drew swift intervention from the Federal Government, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemning the attack and directing the deployment of a specialist security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities.
Although the Presidency confirmed that all the abducted pupils and teachers have regained their freedom, it did not disclose whether any suspects were arrested, whether a ransom was paid, or the circumstances surrounding the rescue.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue detailed statements on the operation.
