Police Arrest INEC Officials on Bye-Election Day with Cash.

……As Ogun CP Orders Discreet Investigation.

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside others for alleged electoral offenses during the Federal Constituency Bye-Election held on August 16, 2025, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.

According to the statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, OGPPRO CSP Omolola Odutola, anipr,it Stated that at approximately 12:45 AM, a police patrol team from the Iperu Remo Division intercepted a Mitsubishi Spacewagon with the registration number LAGOS AKD 887 HT, which had three occupants,one Mr.Toryem Joe-Stans and Ms. Mandara Aminat, both INEC officials, along with their driver.

A search of the vehicle revealed a cash sum of two million five hundred thousand naira (₦2,500,000.00) found in the possession of Mr. Joe-Stans. Upon interrogation, he confessed that the funds were collected from the Kehoy Hotel in Iperu, Ogun State, from an individual he referred to as “Political Solution,” who was allegedly acting on the directive of his supervisor.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, Ph.D., has ordered the suspects to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Eleweran for a thorough investigation. The commissioner reassured the public that monitoring of the electoral process is ongoing and the police will keep the community informed regarding the investigation’s outcomes.
