In a decisive move to maintain public order, CP Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, delivered a stern warning against unlawful assemblies during a press briefing on April 15, 2026, at the Sagamu Divisional Headquarters.
The briefing highlighted the ongoing successes of the proactive security initiative, “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” which has led to significant breakthroughs in addressing crime in the area.
Addressing members of the press, CP Ojajuni who was duly represented by the Ogun State Public Relations Officer,PPRO. DSP Oluseyi B Babaseyi anipr emphasized that the Ogun State Police Command will not tolerate any form of violent protest or actions that threaten public peace. He stated, “While citizens have the right to express grievances, such expressions must be carried out within the ambit of the law.” He further reiterated that any attempts to disrupt public order would face stringent legal repercussions.
The police intervention follows a disturbance on April 7, where commercial motorcycle riders blocked Oba Erinwole GRA Road, obstructing traffic and affecting innocent citizens. Despite the group’s grievances, their actions were deemed unlawful, prompting police to disperse the assembly. The situation escalated as the group later disrupted activities at the Vehicle Inspection Office and the Sotubo Health Centre.
In response to this unrest, the police launched coordinated operations that culminated in the arrest of ten suspects linked to the incident. These suspects are now facing charges in court, and intelligence gathered from them has guided further tactical operations.
On April 13, police forces, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a comprehensive raid targeting identified criminal hotspots in Sagamu. This operation resulted in the arrest of 146 suspects, showcasing a united front in the fight against crime. Collaborative efforts involved the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
The Commissioner praised the collaboration with local government and traditional rulers, acknowledging their crucial role in fostering a secure environment. He commended the professionalism displayed by all security personnel involved, which has bolstered public confidence in law enforcement.
In his conclusion,CP Ojajuni urged the public to remain law abiding and to report any suspicious activities to the Ogun State Police Command via the established emergency lines.
