The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crime prevention operations, apprehending 89 motorists for number plate violations, foiling armed robbery attacks, recovering a stolen vehicle and two motorcycles, and arresting robbery suspects in separate operations across the state.

The Command said the achievements were recorded through sustained intelligence-led policing and proactive security measures under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, in line with the nationwide directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, targeting vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered, or obscured number plates.

According to the police, coordinated enforcement operations conducted across Ogun State led to the interception of 89 vehicles found violating the directive. The Command said offenders are facing appropriate administrative and legal sanctions, including prosecution where necessary.

Police authorities explained that the enforcement exercise is aimed at improving vehicle traceability, strengthening intelligence gathering, supporting criminal investigations, and preventing criminals from exploiting unregistered or concealed vehicles to evade detection.

In a separate operation on July 3, operatives of the Ogere Division, working with the Ogun State So Safe Corps, local vigilantes, and community members, foiled an armed robbery attack at Akuro Phase I in Ogere Remo.

The suspects had reportedly invaded a residence and carted away two motorcycles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables before police operatives launched a coordinated response.

The police said tactical pressure forced the robbers to abandon the two stolen motorcycles and flee into a nearby bush. One suspect, identified as Abdulsalam Adam, was later arrested and is assisting investigators. Officers also recovered a knife, an expended cartridge, and a broken padlock from the scene.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, while efforts continue to apprehend other members of the gang.

Similarly, on July 2, operatives of the Ajuwon Division recovered a stolen Toyota Camry after responding to a distress call over an armed robbery incident at Baale Akinosi Area, Ajuwon.

The hoodlums had allegedly stolen mobile phones, jewellery, power banks, a laptop computer, the Toyota Camry, and other valuables from a residence before fleeing.

The Division’s Anti-Crime Team immediately launched a pursuit, forcing the suspects to abandon the stolen vehicle. One suspect, identified as Israel Salako, was arrested, while police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover the remaining stolen property.

Commending officers involved in the successful operations, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised their professionalism, vigilance, and prompt response to distress calls.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing through sustained patrols, strategic stop-and-search operations, community engagement, and proactive crime prevention.

The Commissioner also urged motorists to comply with vehicle registration requirements and advised residents to patronise only properly identified commercial vehicles at designated motor parks. He encouraged members of the public to remain security conscious, share travel details with trusted relatives when necessary, and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support crime prevention and law enforcement across Ogun State.
